NFPA 1911 Pump Testing

The Draft Commander is a cleaner, more efficient alternative to traditional pump testing methods...

  • Water is fresh from hydrant. We will not contaminate your pump using pond water or recycled pump pit water.
  • Upon completion of the test, we will provide a comprehensive report; showing all test results, any issues or defects that require attention, and a Pass/Fail denotation.
  • We will also follow up to schedule diagnosis or repair for any deficiencies discovered during pump testing.

NFPA 1911 Inspections

We are committed to understanding the overall health of Fire/EMS apparatus. We do this by evaluating the apparatus from stem to stern following a detailed process per the NFPA 1911 standard. We want to know the apparatus as well as you do, we want to identify current issues, potential issues and help you anticipate future failure. We also communicate the magnitude of each issue along with what we recommend to prioritize, plan and resolve.

The NFPA 1911 standard (depending on the apparatus type) has up to 225 checkpoints including:

  • Engine and cooling systems
  • Chassis components
  • Cab and body (including electrical and line voltage inspection)
  • Pump and water tank (if applicable
  • Road and operational
  • Foam proportioning system (if applicable)
  • Aerial device (if applicable)

You will receive a detailed inspection report within 24-48 hours unless there is an “out of service” issue or DOT operational issue that requires immediate attention, and in this case we will communicate directly with the department while on-site and follow up with necessary action within the same day.

Our inspections are just the beginning of safer and more reliable apparatus.

Pump Service

Pumps can be temperamental, but they are also the core of firefighting. We have found that pumps that are not exercised consistently between use fail more often. We recommend a full pump service prior to pump testing to ensure the major pump  components are working properly. If they are not, we will recommend a complete diagnosis and repair be completed prior to pump testing to ensure a better outcome during the test.

A standard pump service includes:

  • Check all gauges and valves, pump drains, and pump and engine coolers
  • Inspect pump packing and adjust if necessary
  • Perform dry vacuum test and primer operation
  • Change transfer case and autolube fluids
  • Lubricate and exercise all valves, handles, caps and strainers
  • Operation of pump to ensure response readiness

Chassis Preventive Maintenance

  • A chassis PM is simple…we drop oil.
  • We can even evaluate the quality of the oil through lab analysis to see if excessive metal is present and the story it tells about potential engine wear.
  • We replace all filters and oil, and we grease the chassis.
  • More importantly, we also track PM’s to keep your apparatus on  track for next recommended scheduled service.
